Serenity Morris

Serenity Morris

Corps Director

Serenity Morris (she/her) is an alumna of 7th Regiment with a deep-rooted passion for the world of Drum Corps. She has been part of the administrative staff since 2022 serving in various integral roles including Content Manager, Tour Manager, and this previous season as Assistant Director. She is excited to step into the Corps Director role this year.

Serenity began her journey with Drum Corps in 2016, spending time with both 7th Regiment and White Sabers. Continuing with 7th Regiment in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Serenity earned the title of Drum Major for the Corps in the 2019 season and was set to spend the summer of 2020 as Drum Major at The Academy prior to the start of COVID-19.

Serenity’s commitment to education and arts administration has greatly influenced her career path. She holds a B.A. in Secondary Theatre Education and in Theatre Design and Technology from The University of New Hampshire. Previously, she has worked as a Music Director at The Palace Youth Theater as well as the Head of Leadership Curriculum at Drum Major Leadership Academy. Currently, she works as the Academic Advising Program Coordinator for the Dean of The College at Brown University. These experiences have cultivated her passion for the arts and leadership, which she eagerly brings to her new role at 7th Regiment.

Sean Ferguson

Sean Ferguson

Program Coordinator & Brass Arranger

Sean Ferguson is returning for his second year as Program Coordinator and Brass Arranger at 7th Regiment. As a staff member since 2020, he has worked in various roles such as a visual instructor, choreographer, and assistant visual caption manager. 

Sean is a graduate of The College of New Jersey and is currently finishing his Masters in Music Education at Columbia University. Sean is currently the Director of Bands at Somerville High School in New Jersey. In addition to his own school, he writes music, drill, and choreography for various groups in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. 

Outside of music, Sean is a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion efforts for marginalized groups and his communities. He is currently an advisor for Somerville’s Spectrum Alliance (LGBTQ+ advocacy group) and Asian Student Association. 

Sean is excited to work with all the amazing individuals at 7th Regiment for the 2024 season!

Alec Smith

Alec Smith

Visual Designer

An Alumnus of 7th Regiment, Alec Smith is proud to return for his 8th year with the Corps.

Drawing on his experience in Connecticut theatre and education, Alec aims to provide a visual program that is both entertaining and a vehicle for performers to develop high-level visual performance skills. Alec works in collaboration with band and color guard directors to target an area of growth in their visual program. He then writes and designs technique & drill exercises, show drill, and staging that will engage students in those new and developing skills. For groups that regularly perform high intensity shows, Alec can highlight the specific skills needed to make the most of the visual design. asmith.drillanddesign@gmail.com

Alec has been working with the “home team” since 2017 and was the Drum Corps’ Visual Caption Manager & Staff Coordinator for four seasons before moving to the design team. Alec performed several seasons with 7th Regiment before aging out with The Cadets. Alec is currently the Visual Caption Head at Trumbull High School, a band director in Naugatuck, CT, and an active drill writer in the Northeast. He received his Masters in Education from the University of Bridgeport.

Alessandra Greco

Color Guard Designer & Caption Manager

Alessandra is very excited to return to 7th Regiment in the roles of Color Guard Designer and Color Guard Caption Manager. Originally from Massachusetts, Alessandra has over 10 years of combined marching and instructing color guard experience. Throughout her color guard career, she has been a member of A, Open, and World Class WGI and DCI organizations including The Cadets, Blessed Sacrament World, The Spartans, and Salem Blue Independent. As an instructor, she has been involved with many marching ensembles as a designer, caption head, choreographer, clinician, and on technical staff. Currently, she is an ensemble visual designer and color guard caption head for South Plainfield High School in New Jersey.

Outside of the marching arts Alessandra works in the energy industry, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. 

 

Dan Shinohara

Dan Shinohara

Battery Arranger

Dan Shinohara is excited to be returning to the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps asd the Battery Arranger for the 2024 DCI Tour. Outside of drum corps, he is currently the Percussion Director at Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth, Texas and oversees all percussion instruction across the middle school and high school campuses in grades 6-12.

Prior to his appointment with the 7th Regiment, Dan graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance. While at UMass, he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with the UMass Drumline, Marimba Bands, and Percussion Studio. Mr. Shinohara was fortunate to have studied with Thom Hannum, Ian Hale, and Ayano Kataoka.

Dan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. At UNT, Mr. Shinohara studied with Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Christopher Deane, Stockton Helbing, Ed Smith, Dennis Fisher, and Dr. Nicholas Williams. He was also the section leader of the UNT Drumline and Symphonic Band as well as a performing member in the PASIC Quad Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Bands, and Gamelan Ensemble.

Dan’s performance resume includes four summers with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps from 2015-2018, appearances with the Boston Pops and U.S. Air Force Band and most recently, the Boston Celtics Drumline in the 2022 NBA Finals. He has also been a member of the Dallas Mavericks Drumline since 2018, where he regularly performs at home games and appearances around the DFW Metroplex.

Dan’s teaching resume includes previous appointments with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps, and numerous high school percussion programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Dan is a proud endorser of Vic Firth sticks and mallets and Zildjian Cymbals.

Matt Bronson

Front Ensemble Arranger & Sound Designer

An active performer and educator, percussionist Matthew Bronson has carved his way into the world of music with a unique skill set and background. A New England native, Matt received a bachelors degree in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University, and a Master of Music Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Minnesota Duluth. This diverse background finds him both at home as a dynamic performer and teacher.

In the world of pageantry, Matt has taught some of the most successful marching ensembles in New England, most notably WGI Medalist, Norwalk High School. Formerly, Matt has served as the Front Ensemble Coordinator and Caption Head for the 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps of New London, Connecticut, and currently leads the front ensemble caption for the University of Connecticut Marching Band. A sought after arranger, his skills can be heard across the United States, from Castleton University in Vermont, to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

Sara Bowden

Visual Caption Manager

Sara Bowden (they/them/theirs) is excited to begin their fourth season with the 7th Regiment in a new role (visual caption manager). Bowden is a Los Angeles-based music theorist and marching arts scholar-practitioner. They bring four years of drum corps coaching experience in the visual (7th Regiment – 2019, 2021, and 2023 seasons) and brass (Crossmen – 2022 season) captions into the caption manager role. While living in Chicago, Bowden studied intermediate contemporary and modern dance and continues to do so in Los Angeles. Bowden’s award-winning dissertation research on the marching arts examines approaches to ensemble timing, tracks the acquisition of schematic vocabulary related to visual design, and models sources of synchronization interference. 

As a graduate worker at Northwestern, Bowden completed the Inclusive Teaching Practicum and served as a Reflective & Effective Teaching Guide at the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching. They approach educational work in the drum corps activity as an invaluable professional development opportunity for marching arts educators, and they look forward to mentoring a staff of educators who share their respect for youth education, our activity’s unique artistry, and the 7th Regiment’s commitment to excellence. 

They will complete their PhD in music theory and cognition at Northwestern University in June 2024. They have an MM in music theory and cognition (Northwestern, 2019) and a BM in music theory (University of North Texas, 2018).

Matt Pouy

Matt Pouy

Assistant Visual Caption Manager

Matt is excited to return for his seventh year as a member and first year as an Assistant Visual Caption Manager of the extraordinarily talented visual team at 7th Regiment! He currently works in
the Hartford State Superior Court, and previously worked with students with special needs in the Cheshire Public Schools in Connecticut. He is also a visual instructor for the Trumbull High
School Marching Band. Matt began his drum corps career in his native New Jersey with the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2009. For the 2011 season, he earned a spot in the baritone
section of the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, formerly of Toledo, OH. He marched there until his DCI ageout in 2012 before returning to his alma mater to start his career teaching marching
band and special education in West Orange, NJ. Matt Also began teaching the brass section of the Raiders in 2014, instructing there through 2017 before being hired as a visual instructor for
7th Regiment in 2018.

Outside of teaching in the marching arts, Matt is a licensed FAA Private Pilot, continuing to work toward his ultimate goal of flying professionally. He also enjoys cooking ridiculous meals for his family and traveling to new places, usually in search of good, cheap food.

 

Rachel Rubino

Brass Caption Manager

Rachel is an educator and musician based out of central Connecticut. She is excited to return to 7th Regiment’s education team this year as brass manager, a role she previously held during the 2019 and what would have been the 2020 seasons. Prior to her time as caption manager, Rachel served as the mellophone technician.

Currently, Rachel is the director of bands at Suffield Middle School, where she directs the school’s three concert bands, the jazz band, and the occasional pep band. Before her time in Suffield, Rachel taught band at Pearson School in Winsted, CT, where she doubled the band enrollment in a single year and started the school’s first jazz band. During that time, Rachel was awarded the American School Band Directors Association Outstanding Potential Award.

During the fall marching band season, Rachel serves as the assistant band director of the Trumbull High School Marching Band. She began her time with the ensemble as a trumpet technician in 2016 and has since been with the band through a Bands of America Regional Championship win, a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day performance, and most recently, a USBands New England Group IV Open Championship win last season. Rachel has also taught the New Milford High School and The Gilbert School marching band and winter percussion programs in varying capacities.

Rachel is an active trumpet player and enjoys performing in both musical theater and orchestral settings. Her favorite shows to play include Newsies and The Wedding Singer. She marched trumpet with 7th Regiment during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

David Daily

Assistant Brass Caption Manager

David Daily is a trombone player from Evansville Indiana who works with several competitive Indiana high school marching bands. After graduating from Ball State University, he is now a member of a broad variety of ensembles in southern Indiana, as well as teaching private lessons. David’s drum corps experiences as a member started with the Glassmen in 2010-12, and ended with Carolina Crown in 2013-14. He has since interned with the Crossmen and has been a brass staff member of 7th Regiment starting in 2019. David’s expansive performing experience under the baton of many different conductors, directors, educators, colleagues, and coaches has given him great insight on how to be a positive and effective team member with the 7th Regiment staff.

Chana Chhim

Color Guard Caption Head

Chana has devoted most of her life to marching and teaching colorguard. Her colorguard career started in 2008 with BMC Durfee High School, and she is still currently performing as the guard captain at Blessed Sacrament World. She has performed with groups such as Visionary, Blessed Sacrament Open, Spartans, LI Sunrisers, Hawthorne Caballeros, and 10 years with Blessed Sacrament World. Chana is also a member of the Class of 2023 WGI Future Leaders program, where she is working to lay the groundwork with mentorship, outreach, and service, along with collaborating with the WGI community to foster the next generation of leaders in our activity. She is very excited to step up into the Caption Head role with 7th Regiment and is looking forward to creating a safe space where performers can learn and grow.

Alex Douthat

Battery Caption Manager

Alex Douthat is a music educator and performer based out of Northern NJ. Alex has been on the Battery staff at 7th Regiment since 2021, and is excited to be returning for his second season as Battery Caption Manager in 2024.

Alex is a proud alumnus of United Percussion (2017), 7th Regiment (2016), the Rutgers Drumline (2015-16), and Fusion Core (2014-15). As a member of these groups, he received instruction from Paul Nalesnik, Alex Beltran, Jeff Bickford, and Omi Batan, among others. Alex is also an alumnus of the Rutgers University percussion studio, where he attended from 2015-2019 as a music education major. During his time there he studied under Joe Tompkins, Javier Diaz, Kyle Zerna, and Mike Truesdell, and performed in a variety of ensembles including the Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Afro Cuban Ensemble.

Aside from teaching at 7th Regiment, Alex works as an elementary band director in Westwood, NJ, and is a member of the battery staff at Fair Lawn high school. He has also taught percussion at Old Bridge and Wayne Valley high schools, with both groups earning multiple championships and awards during his time on staff. Alex has been a performer with Blue Devils Entertainment on the NY Giants drumline since 2019, and currently serves as their quad section manager. He is also a drummer in the Tappan Zee Bridgemen and Wholly Brass parade bands, and frequently plays percussion in local musical theater productions.

 

Henry Lin

Front Ensemble Caption Manager

Henry Lin is excited to be returning for his third season with 7th Regiment and second season as Front Ensemble Caption Head with the group. He looks forward to helping each member grow as musicians and as individuals during their time with the group. In addition, he strives to foster a love for drum corps and the 7th Regiment organization by putting the member experience first and foremost.

Henry is also a Front Ensemble technician for Q2 indoor percussion and a Front Ensemble technician for Jersey Surf. His previous teaching experiences include being the Assistant Percussion Coordinator for Upper St. Clair High School in Pennsylvania, the Front Ensemble Director and Arranger for Franklin Regional High School in Pennsylvania, and a Percussion technician for Villa Rica High School in Georgia.

Prior to moving to Georgia, Henry received his Bachelor of Music in Music Business and double majored in Economic Theory from New York University. While in New York, he studied under Tim Keiper, Joshua Rosenblum, and Dr. Youngmi Ha. During his time in college, Henry had the opportunity to perform with Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps and was named section leader his second year. He also had the opportunity to perform with United Percussion 2 in 2022.

Henry is currently student teaching in Forsyth County, Georgia and finishing his Master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Georgia.

Kobe Emmons

Instructional and Curriculum Development Coordinator

Kobe is a native of the Southeast-Texas area, where he graduated from Lamar University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. During his time in college, Kobe began his higher pageantry arts career by playing baritone in the hornline at Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps, and as a visual cast member for Monarch Independent Percussion. Through these endeavors, Kobe found a passion for instruction in the marching arts, and would go on to work with several high school band and colorguard programs in the Southeast-Texas area as a visual technician, choreographer and visual designer.

Kobe has previously served as the Assistant Band Director and Colorguard Director at Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas, and currently serves as the Assistant Band Director at Waller High School in Waller, Texas.

Kobe is incredibly excited to be returning to the visual instruction staff for the 7th Regiment this summer!

Natalie Brady

Movement Coordinator

Natalie Brady (she/her) is thrilled to join 7th Regiment’s Visual Staff as the Movement Coordinator for the 2024 season. Natalie is a visual designer, choreographer, and educator in the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton areas, and studied visual design and choreography as a 2023 Bluecoats Fellow with mentor Jim Moore. She has been teaching in the marching arts since 2015, working with a variety of scholastic and independent ensembles.

Currently, Natalie works on the visual team for both Cap City Percussion World and Open Class ensembles and visual/choreography team for Valhalla Winds, an Independent Open-Class Winds Ensemble. She is also the Director and Visual Coordinator/Designer for the Oak Hills Indoor Percussion Ensemble; Visual Caption Head/Choreographer for the Oak Hills High School Marching Band; works on the visual/choreography team for Miamisburg Winds; and serves as a visual consultant for other local high school programs.

Previously, Natalie worked as the Visual Caption Head for Cincinnati Tradition Drum & Bugle Corps and Assistant Marching Band Director/Visual Caption Head for Highlands High School Marching Band.

Natalie is excited to get the 2024 season started with 7th Regiment!

Bobby Burns

Visual Instructor

Bobby, originally from Mount Prospect, IL, currently lives in Rockford, IL and is a social worker by day. As a performer, he began with the Prospect Marching Knights in high school and continued performing with the Indiana University Marching Hundred in college, Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in DCI, and Rhythm X Winds in WGI. Bobby has previously worked with high school marching bands across the midwest in ISSMA, MCBA, and BOA circuits and most recently at Chromium Winds in WGI. Bobby is very excited to join the 7th Regiment visual staff this summer. He is eager to join a collaborative space of instructors focused on giving students the tools they need to be successful in the marching arts and beyond.

Simon Elizondo

Visual Instructor

Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Simon Elizondo is a Music Education major with a concentration in Euphonium performance at the University of North Texas studying under Dr. David Childs. Simons’ performance experience ranges from WGI Indoor winds to DCI to semifinalist in International Competitions as a performing soloist.
Simon performed with the 2019 cast of the Laredo Independent Indoor Winds where he serves as baritone soloist. He began his Drum Corp. career with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corp. in 2019 as a Euphonium player. In 2022, he earned a spot as a lead baritone player with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corp. for his age-out season where he also served as a trombone player in that years’ trombone ensemble. In 2021, Simon competed in the Leonard Falcone International Tuba and Euphonium Festival in the Euphonium artist division where he advanced into the semifinals portion of the competition.
Simon works as a marching instructor at Grapevine High School and has also formerly worked at Lyndon B. Johnson High School, his alma mater, as a marching instructor in his hometown of Laredo.

Emma DiMiceli

Visual Instructor

Emma DiMiceli is an active trumpet player and educator based in Western Connecticut and is very excited to be joining the staff for her first year on the 7th Regiment visual team!

Emma is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds B.As in Music and Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. Emma has been playing the trumpet for 13 years and began her marching career with the University of Connecticut Marching Band in 2019. She then went on to march trumpet with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2022 and 2023. As an instructor, Emma was a visual technician with the Trumbull High School Marching Band in 2023 and has assisted with various programs and clinics throughout her time at UConn.

AK Hazel

Movement Instructor

AK (They/Them) is a color guard and movement educator from West Chester, Pennsylvania and is excited to join the 7th regiment visual team this season.

AK started their marching career at Burlington Township High School in 2013 and over the last 10 years they’ve been a member numerous ensembles including The Raiders Drum and Bugle Corp (’16-’18), The Academy Drum and Bugle Corp (’19), and Main Line Independent (’20-’22). AK began their teaching career at Boyertown Area Senior High School in 2019 and is currently the color guard director at East High School in West Chester, PA.

Outside of the marching arts, AK holds a BS in Marketing from West Chester University and is a LGBTQ+ youth advocate as well as a Pennsylvania local titleholder for Miss America.

AK is excited and grateful to be part of the 7th regiment staff this year and for the opportunity to foster growth in the marching arts.

Kaitlyn Colyer

Movement Instructor

Kaitlyn Colyer (she/her) is a marching arts educator and designer based out of Chicago, IL. Kaitlyn’s performance credits include seasons with the Madison Scouts, Rhythm X Percussion Ensemble, Onyx, the Michigan Winter Ensemble, and the Michigan Marching Band. As an educator, Kaitlyn specializes in movement and visual fundamentals for new and emerging talent within the activity. In the past, she has been a visual and woodwind technician at her alma mater, Coldwater High School, a visual and movement technician at Chromium Winds, and a guest technician at winter guards in the midwest region. Kaitlyn is currently the Director of the Color Guard program at Maine West High School in Des Plaines, IL. She is also a proud member of the admin team at Rhythm X, working to ensure performer safety and risk management education.

Kaitlyn graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Studies with a concentration in Organizational Misconduct Theory. Professionally, Kaitlyn is a paralegal specializing in antitrust law. In her free time, she volunteers with MAASIN to support and educate the next generation of instructors and members on participant safety and positive educational culture. She also serves as an on-call Crisis Counselor and Medical Advocate for a survivor non-profit in the Chicagoland area. Outside of working, teaching, and volunteering, you can usually find her taking pictures of her two cats, Cannoli and Pierogi. Kaitlyn is so excited to join the visual team at 7th Regiment this year!

Adam Twombly

Adam Twombly

Visual Consultant

Adam is a native of Middlefield, Connecticut, and he graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in music in 2016. While at CCSU, Adam performed with the wind ensemble, marching band, pep band, brass quintet, trombone ensemble, and jazz ensemble. A four-year member of the CCSU Blue Devil Marching Band, Adam served as one of the band’s drum majors in 2015. He completed a master’s degree in music education at the University of Bridgeport in 2020.

Adam played baritone as a member of the 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps from 2013 through 2015, including the 2014 season when the corps made its first ever appearance in DCI World Class Semifinals. In 2015 Adam was a horn sergeant for the corps and he was voted “brass line MVP” by the other members.

Adam worked with the Trumbull High School Marching Band from 2015 through 2018 as both a music and visual instructor. In 2016 the ensemble was the Bands of America Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion and the USBands Class 6 Open National Champion, and the band was also selected to perform at the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Adam joined the visual staff of the Cheshire High School Marching Band in 2018 and he was the visual director from 2019 through 2022. He has been an instructor or consultant for many other ensembles throughout Connecticut as well. In 2023 he became an adjudicator for both USBands and NESBA.

Austin Eskeli

Visual Consultant

Austin has been a member of the 7R visual team since 2019. A former member of several New England based marching arts organizations, including The Seventh Regiment, Austin takes great pride in how dedicated his fellow staff is to creating a positive learning environment for the members of the corps. He takes even greater pride in the determination and spirit of the students he is fortunate enough to teach at The Seventh Regiment. While not teaching at 7R, Austin teaches Elementary Music in Massachusetts.
