Our Mission

7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization provides opportunities for students to achieve excellence and develop life skills through educational enrichment, competitive spirit, and community engagement in the performing arts.

who we are

Leota “Lee” Cornish-Muller was raised in New London, graduated from St. Bernard High School and received a BS in Business Administration from Heald College in Hayward California. She completed her Six Sigma training from Villanova University in Information Technology and is a Certified Scrum Master in Information Technology. She has worked at Pfizer Pharmaceutical, General Dynamics, United Health Care and is currently an IT Sr. Program Manager at Boston Scientific.

Her Drum Corps history began in 1969 as a member of the Surfers Drum and Bugle Corps from New London CT. She marched until 1974.

In 2000, She was part of a small group that realized the lack of Jr. Drum Corps in the Connecticut area. Knowing what a positive influence performing arts has on young people she worked with fellow alumni, formed a board of directors, and began the long road to launching a new Drum Corps. She was elected President and served for 5 years, within that time the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corp was established and fielded in the Drum Corps International Family.

In 2005 she stepped down as Board President and moved on to serve other worthy causes. One as Board President of Covenant Shelter for 7 years. She is currently Treasure of the Board for the Inter- district School for Arts and Communication (ISSAC) a Charter School grades 4-8. She also served on the Board of Education for New London Public Schools. For more than 20 years has Co-Chaired the Connecticut Make-A-Wish Volleyball Tournament fundraiser.

With Drum Corps in her blood, she has come back to her roots in 2018 and is proudly serving as the President of 7th Regiment. Her goal is to build a stronger foundation, help support the growth of the student population, and take 7th Regiment to the next level in Drum Corps.

Jonathan started and ended his drum corps experience with 7th Regiment. He marched 2007-2009 with two seasons as soprano on G bugle (yes they had valves) and one as drum major, took a summer off for an internship with Dominion Energy, and returned to age out in 2011 on baritone. He continued giving back to the organization as a rank-and-file volunteer over the years in his spare time. In 2017, Jonathan and a group of predominantly former drum corps members founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Performing Arts Initiative for Students of Color where he currently serves as its treasurer. PAISOC provides scholarships, leadership training, and educational opportunities to students of color in the performing arts. In 2022, Jonathan was elected to the Board of Directors where he takes his appreciation for the holistic development provided to him by the staff of past years and carries forth that esteemed tradition to make 7th Regiment a top-notch experience for its members, staff, and volunteers.

Jonathan works as a Scientist/Manager in biopharmaceutical sciences and holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts. He can be contacted at jonathan.miller@7thregiment.org

Dan Topping first became involved with the 7th Regiment as a member of the bass line in 2008. He would go on to march an additional four seasons with 7th Regiment, aging out in 2013. Dan attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He currently works as a project engineer in hydraulics and has his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven.

Since aging out, Dan assisted the corps as a volunteer, regularly helping cook food, organize events, and fix equipment. He was first elected to the Board of Directors in Fall of 2016. Dan strongly believes in drum corps’ ability to provide youth with opportunities for deep personal growth and irreplaceable social connections, having experienced them firsthand. Dan has seen corps membership nearly triple since 2008 thanks to the hard work of volunteers, administrative staff, instructors, and 7RYPAO members. He is eager to help continue their legacy so that educational opportunities may be provided to many more marching members to come.

Chris Barbour is a Senior Project Manager with Ahearn Holtzman, INC. He specializes in Telecom Construction projects serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic States.

Chris draws on both his business and non-profit experiences to contribute to the success of the 7RYPAO. His non-profit experience includes 17 years of active service with the Cheshire Fire Department, 20+ years with the Boy Scouts of America and 6 years with the Southington Blue Knights Marching Band, where he is currently Vice President of Operations.

Chris was elected as a Member at Large to the 7RYPAO in the fall of 2018.

Chris looks forward to serving and guiding the Board to provide a safe and educational experience for all Members and Staff.

Bianca Doone (they/them/theirs) is currently the Chair of Marketing and Communications for the 7RYPAO Board of Directors and is also serving as a member of the Alumni Committee. They are an Alumnus of 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, aging out on the cymbal line in 2015, and they came back in the 2016 and 2017 seasons as a member of the instructional staff. From 2018-2021, Bianca served as a member of the 7th Regiment Operations team, running social media, designing and maintaining the website, and working as a member coordinator.

Outside of 7th, Bianca is a battery and cymbal technician for Cheshire High School Marching Band and Winter Percussion programs. In the past, Bianca has worked with the cymbal line at the University of New Haven Chargers Marching Band (West Haven, CT) from 2017-2025, and has worked with a few other groups around the state during the fall and winter. Day-to-day, Bianca works as a Data Engineer for Aetna and holds an MS in Biostatistics from the University of Massachusetts where they were a member of the UMass Drumline and several other ensembles. In their free time, they enjoy crocheting, going to local breweries, and traveling.

Bianca is committed to serving the mission of the 7RYPAO and its programming, and hopes to continue to build and maintain a sustainable foundation for success. They can be reached at bianca.doone@7thregiment.org.
